Facebook Link Caching

0 Flares 0 Flares ×

We just launched our new site and we couldn’t wait to post links on our social networks, Facebook being the first one.  But we quickly noticed, 😳 (OMG) that we forgot to fill in the meta description of the site!  So we added the information and looked to the link on Facebook, still no change.  Re-posted the link and still no change!

Here’s what we kept seeing!  Hope is showing where the description should be.

When a link is shared in Facebook the description of the page is cached by facebook and the same description is used every time the link is shared again.

In other words, whenever you change or update your description of your page it won’t be reflected because there is  a cache of the old description stored with facebook.

So, How do you Update/Clear link Description Cached in Facebook?  The solution is so simple.  Visit the following link on Facebook, enter your URL  to see the stats of the link and also update the old cached data.

Now when we post our link for our New website we have our description showing up.
